    Project scope

    Establish the reporting standard that makes solvent-free mechanochemical synthesis transferable between laboratories, and quantify the energy dynamics of the mills that drive it.

    The challenge

    Mechanochemical procedures are frequently irreproducible elsewhere, because papers report a dial setting — "30 Hz, 60 minutes" — rather than the energy actually delivered. Mill geometry, jar volume, ball count and ball material all change that figure, so the same nominal settings give different chemistry.

    The solution

    Model the energy dynamics of ball mills, compute comparable sustainability factors, and publish the specifications a transfer actually requires. Published in Angewandte Chemie International Edition.

    The impact

    A citable reporting standard for a field with a genuine claim to greener synthesis — and a check on the assumption that "solvent-free" automatically means low-impact, since a mill drawing power for hours may not be.
